Enable interactive log on screen in windows 7

By enabling the interactive logon screen in windows 7 you are required to enter the username as well as the password. This provides some extra security to the system as anyone trying to logon would have to guess the username.

To enable the interactive logon feature:

1. Open the registry editor. To open the registry editor you can goto start menu and type “regedit” into the search bar without the double quotes and open it from there.

2. Browse to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System” in the registry editor.

3. Find a key named “dontdisplaylastusername” and double click it. Enter 1 into the value data text box to enable the interactive logon and OK. (To disable interactive logon and use default logon type change the value of the data to 0.)

4. Log off to see the change.
